Self-Compassion Class: Week One
Welcome to week one of self-compassion class . . . we’re all beginners here, so go easy on yourself!
Information about Self Compassion:
The class is inspired by the work of psychologists Kristen Neff and Chris Germer. Since its creation, there have been over a thousand studies that have empirically validated this therapy and demonstrated a variety of benefits. This experience is open to folks with varying degrees of mindfulness experiences - whether this will be your first time practicing or you're an expert.

Please come to sessions with paper and pencil, a journal, or any other writing material for the written reflection exercises during some classes.
We are recording the sessions so they can be accessible to the participants with a private link which will be shared on this page after the session.
How to approach this course:
Approach this journey as an experiment and adventure. The facilitator will propose a variety of moments of reflections, activities, and exercises and members are encouraged to approach each one with a beginner's mind.
Group members are responsible for monitoring their emotional safety and taking a step back from class content when they see fit. See this zones of safety diagram below:
Daily Mindfulness Practice:
Members are encouraged to commit to a daily mindfulness practice (formally or informally). Here are a few resources to explore for mindfulness meditations:
An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation
In his first video from 2018, Mingyur Rinpoche teaches one of the most important aspects of meditation, namely that it can be applied everywhere at any time. This instruction is also key for bringing meditation “off the cushion” and integrating it into daily life.
